Literature Text

Love doesn't work that way
Like bartering a kiss for a piece of mind
Trading your hard work to shelter her
So she could helter skelter you

Although it looks to be but a contract
It's really the only pact
To why you are and why she is
and why the sky turns blue,

Sunset blood red dead falling off
a table to tomorrows as you play
with her hair in the present tense
wish time could stand still

But time like love has no rule
Other than now as yesterday fades
Oh the times spent in shades
Counting cards, discarding spades
In the hope that diamonds would
Fall down from above

Like effusions of

You could only hope that you
pledge your entire soul to her
and that she isn't the devil.
Photo: Self-portrait.

Poem was inspired by a discussion related to what it requires to be a good husband or wife.  I thought the question was insensitive because love isn't a trade between two people.  It just happens when it does.  You just have to trust your feelings.
